But first, they’ll have to play a surprising Weber Warrior team on the road, who squeaked by a Box Elder team while showing some dominance against the Vikings of Viewmont.
It’s hard pressed to say that this battle will be a close one, but Dart coach Ryan Bishop has already said they will not overlook this Weber team.
“(Weber) has started fast and they have been really impressive so far,” said Bishop after the Darts’ blowout victory of Clearfield last Friday. “We need to fix our mistakes and some things in our schemes if we are going to win.”
Fans in attendance probably couldn’t tell what, if anything, the Darts need to fix. They posted 49 points last week with three of the scores coming from the feet of Tyrel Day.
The defense also performed its duties as Landon Hart returned a touchdown on an interception in the first quarter and have held opponents to only 14 points on the year, all of which coming from the Clearfield Falcons.
The Weber Warriors are already making a statement in their initial two games on their own way to an early undefeated start.
Though Weber was thought by some to be a relatively weak team after barely getting by class 4A Box Elder, the Warriors had no problem maintaining its offensive scoring while remaining relatively stingy on defense against Viewmont.
They even showed that they are a team capable of recovering from deficits. During its game against the Bees, they fell behind by as many as six points before pulling off the one point victory.
In the Warriors matchup against Viewmont, they again fell behind early only to come back with 20 points while showing they can have as stingy a defense as anyone in Region 1.
The true test for both teams during the contest will be whether or not the defenses can keep the opposing offenses in check. So far Davis has proved that they can do whatever they want to whomever they want, scoring seemingly at will while leaving their opponents in the dust.
Weber’s defense has shown a bend-but-don’t-break approach, which has worked for them so far.
However, the Warriors will have to nearly bend over backwards to try and keep the potent Dart offense out of the end zone.
And even though the Darts have posted astonishing numbers already this season, Bishop stated that the team still needs to improve on a few of its schemes.
It’s tough to find an opposing coach that wants to hear those words after seeing the team put up 35 and 49 points respectively in its first two games. However, the Warriors defense will need to be up to the challenge if they plan on staying in the game with the Darts, who seem to have their eye on the Region 1 prize already.
Both defenses are sure to come out firing with everything they have, but it will be the first defense that breaks that could possibly determine the final outcome of this game.
The battle of early undefeated teams awaits.
