LAYTON — As part of Team McReady in the 48 Hour Film Project, Amy Her said she was afraid to go to the bathroom by herself.

“Eggsistential Issues” is a film about a psychiatric patient, Karl Wheaton, with mother and girlfriend issues. Wheaton’s soul was encapsulated in a black egg, carried by the Egg Woman. The Egg Woman is a Grim Reaper character of sorts, collecting the souls of society’s misfits. Team McReady completed the film in 48 hours.

The clock starts ticking when each team draws one of 14 genres. Each team is also required to include a named character, a specific prop and a word-for-word line of dialogue. The prop for this year’s competition was an egg. It was that prop that challenged Her and her newly honed skills as an actress.

“I ended up playing the Egg Woman character,” Her commented. “I looked pretty scary.”

So scary in fact that she wouldn’t even look at herself in the mirror without an escort.

“Everyone was saying how scary and evil I looked, so I was afraid to go to the bathroom by myself to see what I looked like,” she said.

Her confessed to the difficulties of portraying an evil character due to personal fears. Even her acting resume reveals that she is afraid of the dark.

“I found it difficult to be scary because I scare myself a lot. My imagination kind of runs away with me sometimes,” she said. “When I was trying to practice between takes, I was creeping myself out.”

The film was screened in Salt Lake City at the Broadway Theater and the Organ Loft, and won Best Actor (Danny James) and Best Score (Randin Graves). The film also starred Jana Edgington, Terence Johnson, Katie McMinn, Kate Driscoll, and Michael Solarez. To view “Eggsistential Issues,” visit www.vimeo.com/12834685.
