KAYSVILLE — Winning an award is the perfect time to acknowledge everyone else who was there with you.

Recent Athena Award winner Jean Madsen took time to acknowledge the work of Haven Barlow, who she calls “instrumental” in the creation of the Davis Applied Technology College, and Representative Sheryl Allen (R-Bountiful). Madsen joined the organization after it was already formed, working with the college’s Foundation board to help in raising money for scholarships to the school.

Madsen, who also regularly swims in the Senior Olympics and has won several medals, recently received the Athena Award from the Davis Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business Leadership Committee. The award is designed to honor women leaders throughout the community.

State Farm leaders include Davis

SALT LAKE CITY — A Davis County woman whose family has been involved in Farm Bureau activities for decades has been elected to a state post.

Ruth Roberts, who, with her husband Dix, have served in top Davis County Farm Bureau positions, among others, has been re-elected to a new state level post.

She has been again selected as chair of the Utah Farm Bureau’s Women’s Committee. She and her husband are onion and produce farmers in Layton.

Roberts and other state leaders were chosen during the group’s state convention held in late November at the Davis Conference Center in Layton.

The Davis organization has more than 2,000 members, alone, including its insurance arm.
