“We were right there but it got away from us in the end,” said Viewmont coach Jeff Emery. “We battled, but just came up short.”
The game itself was one of odd scoring.
Viewmont jumped out to a slim 7-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and then trailed 19-17 at the halftime break.
The third quarter saw little scoring by either team as Fremont extended its lead outscoring Viewmont 6-5 in those eight minutes.
The final quarter of the game had both teams shooting at a blistering pace and hitting free throws as the Silverwolves put up 24 points to Viewmont’s 21 in the fourth.
“It was a wild fourth quarter and we definitely had some chances to pull the game out but it just didn’t happen tonight,” Emery said. “We had some solid performances on our team.”
Blake Wilkinson led Viewmont as he battled the bigger Silverwolves ending the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds to go with two steals and two assists.
“Blake was solid tonight for us,” Emery said.
The rest of the Vikings were stead as Konner Frey chipped in five points.
Isaac Tessina, Eric North and Coulsen Wright each finished with four points.
The loss dropped Viewmont into a tie for third place in Region 1 with Syracuse while the Silverwolves remained tied with Davis for the lead atop the Region.
The battle for Region and state continues for three more weeks.
