CLEARFIELD — Tanner Hinds, the Darts star everything player, rushed for 179 yards on 15 carries and scored four of the Darts’ five touchdowns as they shutout the Clearfield Falcons 37-0 Friday night.

“We challenged them to play hard and execute,” said Darts coach Ryan Bishop. “And they did that. It was all we could ask for.”

The Darts started scoring almost immediately after they touched the ball. On the first play after the Falcons kicked off, Hinds took a handoff from quarterback Gavin Fowler, made a few cuts, and dashed down the sideline for the first score of the game.

But Hinds wasn’t done yet. After forcing the Falcons to punt with 8:40 left in the first quarter, he took the punt and returned it 65 yards for his second score of the game.

Davis went on another quick scoring drive that concluded with Hinds rushing for his second touchdown of the game to stretch the Darts’ lead to 21 before the first quarter ended.

Not to be outdone in this game as well was the Darts defense. With Todd Stapley, Troy Hinds and Mike Jewkes leading the charge, the Falcons were unable to put together a drive for most of the game.

“They played extremely well,” said Bishop. “It goes back to what I said about us challenging them. They did everything they were supposed to do and kept (Clearfield) in check.”

After Clearfield was unable to convert on a fourth down from Davis’ five yard line, the Darts took control of the tempo and kept pushing their way through the Falcon defense. Fourteen plays later, Hinds scored from five yards out to cap a 95-yard drive that put them in the driver’s seat going into the half.

The Davis defense stepped up again coming into the second half, as Daniel Moffett picked off a pass from Falcon quarterback Kolton Young. Five plays later, the Darts scored their fifth touchdown of the game. Ben Keaton, a senior, took the score in from five yards out after a 29-yard pass from Fowler to Moffett helped set up the play.

Davis capped off its scoring for the night with a safety after a Clearfield punt attempt went awry.

“I’m proud of the way they played tonight,” said Bishop. “They kept at it, played hard every play and got a shut-out because of it.

“I’m happy for them.”

Davis is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 1 play. They’ll play Weber at home Friday night.
