DAVIS COUNTY — I was standing in line at the grocery store recently when the gentleman behind me asked, “Hey, what’s going on at the Davis Chamber these days?”

I am asked that question all the time, but to my surprise, I struggled to answer him. It was not because there was nothing going on at the Chamber, rather it was because there was so much happening that it took me a moment to get my thoughts around it all.

“Well…” I said, and then I unleashed a torrent of information about the events, activities, and services provided recently by the Chamber.

Finally, when it was clear that neither of us had time enough to discuss it all, I gave him a copy of the chamber’s weekly newsletter, Inside Track (yes, I keep a few copies in my suit coat pocket).

If my new friend took the time to read it, he discovered that Inside Track posted 32 separate events, meetings, or luncheons that the Chamber sponsored that month to help our members promote and improve their businesses.

Those Chamber events included six ribbon cutting ceremonies to welcome new businesses from Clinton to North Salt Lake.

It invited Chamber members to eight weekly Leads Luncheons (one per week in Layton and Bountiful) where they could promote their business to up to 40 additional business contacts. It included information about several vital community forums like a Meet the Candidates luncheon and an economic question and answer session with local financial experts (see additional story).

In addition, it promoted 12 new or renewing Chamber member businesses that week alone.

Finally, it helped promote three other community service organizations by getting news of their events out to our 650 members. No wonder it took me a moment to gather my thoughts about what was going on at the Chamber.

The Davis Chamber is committed to providing the leadership, advocacy, education, networking, and promotion needs of your business throughout the year…and especially during times of economic uncertainty. That is why the 2009 Chamber Board of Directors has chosen the following theme for 2009:

The Davis Chamber – Essential to your Success. We look forward to making that theme a guiding force in our efforts and a reality for Davis County businesses throughout the coming year.
