May 27, 1964-May 28, 2008
Alan Benson Curless, 44, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, died unexpectedly May 28, at the family cabin in Ammon ID. He was born May 27, 1964, in Logan UT to Alvin and Gretta Benson Curless. He grew up in Logan, was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Logan High School and LDS Seminary, served in the Italy Milan LDS Mission and attended Utah State University.
At age 16 he began working part time at a local grocery store. He continued that work after his mission and there met his future eternal companion. He and Lisa Wuthrich were married March 20, 1993, later Solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple December 5, 2003. The family lived in Logan for several years, then in Layton for four years before moving to Bountiful in August of 2007. ##M:More##
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Alan served as a Scoutmaster, an adviser in the Young Men's and at the time of his passing was a Primary teacher. He was an Elder in the Foothill Ward.
Alan's smoked brisket, prepared with his own secret recipes for rub and sauce, are legendary. He was also an incredible Dutch oven chef. He and Lisa worked together preparing several neighborhood and ward dinners which are remembered fondly by all who attended. Although Alan loved cooking, camping and fishing, his greatest joy was his family.
He was a very happy person and his sense of humor and dry wit will long be remembered. He cared about others and was always willing to do whatever he could to give service.
Alan was a self-taught computer whiz and after college worked in the IT department at Icon Health and Fitness. He then worked for Sorensen Construction as their IT manager (twice being named "Employee of the Year"). At Sorensen he was promoted to project manager, supervising more than 50 employees. He then worked for a time for Reflections Press. However, he truly found joy in his work when he started his own company specializing in real estate investments, financial management and had recently branched out to offer education in credit management.
Alan is survived by his dear wife Lisa, their children Conner, Andrea, Jessica and Jamie. Other survivors include his mother Gretta Curless (North Salt Lake), sister Catherine (Kris) Schulthies (Riverton), brother John (Tonya) Curless (Farmington), 10 nieces and nephews who adored him, his mother-in-law Kay (John) Chapman (Idaho Falls), father-in-law Johnn (Kathy) Wuthrich (Logan), sister-in-law Jill (Clay) Miller (Atlanta Georgia), brothers-in-law Ryan (Jessica) Wuthrich and Nicholus (Amy) Wuthrich, both of Providence. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and older sister Elizabeth.
The family greeted friends on Sunday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Foothill Ward Chapel, 4275 South Bountiful Boulevard, Bountiful, and Monday June 2 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Services at 11 a.m. were conducted by Bishop Dan Nelson. Interment followed in the family plot at the Logan City Cemetery.
