Construction workers working on a house behind the home, could smell electrical smoke and investigated, authorities said. They spotted the smoke and pounded on the womanís door, getting her out of the house. They also called 911.
The workers woke the woman, who had been napping. She told investigators she was finishing some laundry earlier when the lights went out. Thinking it was a neighborhood power outage, she laid down.
Firefighters had to knock the ceiling out above the utility room to put the fire out. It had come down the wall of the house.
The fire caused at least $15,000 in damage to the home.
The cityís fire crews also responded to a grass fire on U.S. 89 earlier this month, and a number of unrelated fires, which all occurred on June 29.
