Leads luncheons grow in popularity, effectiveness
The Davis Chamber sponsors two weekly leads luncheons that are open to all Davis County businesses. Chamber membership is not required. The luncheons are held every Tuesday at Roosters in Layton and every Wednesday at El Matador in Bountiful. Both luncheons begin at 11:15 am. The only cost is the price of the meal. Both restaurants feature a Chamber special for $10 which includes entree, drink, and tip. Participation in both luncheons has grown steadily over the past year. Average attendance is between 25 and 30 business professionals at each location, although as many as 47 people attended a recent Layton luncheon.
Mark Appelbaum of Cedar Creek Mortgage (and the Davis Chamber Citizen of the Year for 2007) hosts each meeting. Each attendee is given time for a brief business introduction and then one business gives a five- to 10-minute presentation. The businesses sign up in advance for available presentation dates.
Appelbaum keeps the meetings quick-paced, interesting, and lively. Most im-portantly, there is ample time for attendees to network before and after the meetings to seal the deal. Several at-tendees refer to the luncheon regulars as their ìsecond sales teamî and market almost exclusively through these weekly Chamber functions. A member of the Chamber staff is at every luncheon to answer questions and help make connections. As one luncheon attendee recently commented, ìThere is no more effective way to spend your lunch break.î
