The fourth annual South American Cultural Festival, set to be held Aug. 29, from noon to 10 p.m. at the Bountiful City Park (400 North 200 West), will feature more than 80 performing groups from 10 different South American countries, as well as food, crafts, and the opportunity to reach out across cultures. Admission is completely free.
“Come celebrate,” said Event Festival Director Fransisco Calderon. “We don’t have a lot of money, but a lot of people want to participate.”
In addition to groups who will show off native dances from each country (including the tango, which has its home in Argentina) and others who will share the folklore of each country, the rock group Infusion will share the most popular music playing on South American radios today. For the kids there will be face painting and a rock wall, which will also be completely free.
Several booths will have food from countries such as Chile, Peru and Brazil for sale, as well as South American arts and crafts including jewelry, painting, and textiles.
“We want to share our culture with friends,” said Calderon. “Everyone is welcome.”
