Dugal told Rotarians that BDAC holds everything from art exhibits to classes. International performing and ethnic groups are invited to the center every year on a regular basis, and there is always a need for host families.
ìThis year, we have 250 individuals to place with host families,î said Dugal. That is due to the IOV conference included with Summerfest.
ìBeing a host family is an excellent way to see the world and learn of new cultures without leaving your own home,î said Dugal.
Groups interested in participating with Summerfest contact BDAC. Dugal said after that, the center checks the group out, then offers an official invitation to the group. She said the only real issue that comes up for these groups is getting visas.
ìOnce they get here, they are so excited to be here,î said Dugal.
The Internationale Organization Fur Volkskunst is a group of performing youth who focus specifically on folklore. ìThey also focus on endangered cultures,î said Dugal. There are cultures in the world currently in danger of becoming extinct because no one practices them.
As part of the folklore festival, China has shipped a loom that displays art over 1,000 years old. The loom is currently on display in the Bountiful Rec Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours begin this Saturday.
ìI have been excited to get together with the Rotary Club on this,î said Dugal. The center is still in need of volunteers to help the dancers and performers.
