The fund-raiser will be held Friday, Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fund-raisers are public yard sales held at the old Foods, etc. store and the Clearfield Towne Square at 269 E. 200 S.
Habitat for Humanity hopes to raise funds to help build homes for low income families in Weber and Davis Counties.
ìMany people and businesses donate extra building supplies (new and used) that cannot be used in the homes we are renovating or building,î said vice president for Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties, Brook Lyons.
ìThe yard sales are a way for us to use these donations to help buy supplies needed for construction.î
Habitat says it needs additional sale items and encourage people to donate leftover materials from summer-time home projects. They also accept used cabinets and furniture and old household items. Habitat does not accept clothing.
Habitat for Humanity helps low-income families build and buy their own homes. Partner families must meet certain income requirements and be willing to perform what Habitat calls ìsweat equityî to help build their own home and/or the homes of others. They must also be willing to participate in workshops designed to help them become more successful homeowners.
Once these homes are completed, they are sold to partner families at a non-profit price with a no-interest loan and affordable monthly payments.
ìOur last three yard sales resulted in more than $4,000 raised, which made all of them one of our biggest fund-raisers of the year,î said Lyons.
For those interested in donating items to the yard sale, there will be volunteers on hand at the yard sale location on Saturdays between 10 and noon, as well as Sept. 24-25 between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. who can accept donations. Donations will also be accepted during the yard sales.
Those who would like someone to pick up larger donations may call Howard at 710-4342 or 475-9821. Donations are tax deductible and receipts will be provided upon request.
