AARP has now been serving seniors in Utah, Davis County and around the nation for 50 years. The association began in California and was created by a retiring high school principal. The organizationís goals have been to keep seniors financially secure and to make health care more available to them.
ìWe want to work on these issues today so they donít become a burden for future generations,î said AARP state director, Rob Ence.
The American Association of Retired Persons has been working on helping seniors to know how and where to put their savings and become financially literate since 1958, and Ence says the association will continue to work on that goal. He also said that health-care issues will continue rising.
ìWe want to make sure we have the resources and facilities to care for people in the future,î said Ence.
Around the state, different films are being shown to celebrate ìWhere were you back then?î In Kaysville, the film ìGet Smartî will be showing at the Kaysville Theater on Main Street. The movie is free and includes popcorn and a drink.
ìItís really a film paying homage to the 1960s TV series,î said Ence. The Davis High Menís Quartet will also be performing a half an hour before the film begins.
