LAYTON — The Taste of the Town, which has become a Pioneer Day tradition, will be held for the 12th time Friday, July 24, from 4-7 p.m. at Layton’s Commons Park.

It will bring together more than 15 restaurants of all types, as well as music to entertain holiday revelers.

Sponsored by the Davis Chamber of Commerce and the City of Layton, the event is free, but food tickets are required. Tickets can be redeemed at the tables of participating restaurants, where visitors can sample entrees from each establishment.

New this year, diners can either purchase a 10-ticket pass for $8 or buy tickets individually for $1 each. All items will require less than four tickets.

In addition, participating restaurants will offer a 15 percent discount to Taste of the Town guests from July 24- Aug. 31. Tickets must be shown when visiting participating restaurants.

Participating restaurants include Boston’s Gourmet Pizza/Sports Grill, Corbin’s Grille, Cutler’s Cookies & Sandwiches, Costco, Daily Rise, Davis Hospital, Holy Smoke BBQ, Kasbah Grill, MacCool’s Public House, Marie Callender’s Pies, Mimi’s Cafe, Roosters, Taste of India and Zeppes Italian Water Ice.

Music has become a big part of this tradition, as well, with “Riders in the Sky” to perform a free concert in the Ed Kenley Amphitheater at 7 p.m. The amphitheater is also in the park adjacent to the food booths.

For three decades, the group has “revived and revitalized” Western music, according to a press release. “They are known for their wacky humor and way-out Western wit, and have been called ‘America’s favorite cowboys!’”

The group is reportedly the only exclusively Western artists to win a Grammy Award.

“This event is a tradition for our Davis County residents, friends and restaurants in the area,” said Kym Buttschardt, volunteer event chair, and co-owner of Roosters restaurants in Layton and Ogden.

“Everyone loves delicious food and live music in a shaded garden setting. Taste of the Town is a must-attend event during your Pioneer Day celebration,” she added.

Meanwhile, as previously reported in the Clipper, the first Taste of the Town South will be held Aug. 5, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., as part of Bountiful’s Summerfest.
