L’il Abner turns 75 this year. While his comic strip hasn’t been published locally for decades, the strip remains an all time favorite. Remember how we all enjoyed Daisy Mae’s efforts to catch L’il Abner on Sadie Hawkins Day? And wouldn’t Pappy Yokum be pleased to see how his distinctive little beard has been copied today by so many young men trying to look “chic”? If you were to pick up a copy of the famous Al Capp comic strip today, you would find that L’il Abner still looks like a handsome young man and Daisy Mae is as beautiful as ever. Mammy and Pappy Yokum never seem to age.

Unfortunately, as contemporaries of L’il Abner, we have changed. Our eyesight, hearing, and reaction times have changed as a result of the unfair ravages of time and gravity. Frequently these changes affect, among other things, our driving skills.

The four-hour AARP Driver Safety classes have been established to help senior drivers become more effective and safe while at the same time providing a discount on auto insurance premiums.

As I recall, L’il Abner never drove a car. But, if he was around today, he would be sure to sign up for one of the Davis County AARP Driver Safety classes listed below:
