SANDY — Davis County was well represented at the state soccer championships Thursday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

In 4A action, the Woods Cross Wildcats were tied 0-0 at halftime but fell to Mountain View, 3-1. The Wildcats earned their berth in the finals after two thrilling penalty kick overtime victories in the quarter and semi-finals.

Layton High entered the 5A final after finishing just 5th out of Region 1. The Lancers had beaten the likes of Alta and Viewmont en route to the finals, but ran into defending champion Brighton Bengals. Brighton scored early and often and captured the title with a 4-0 win over Layton.
