BOUNTIFUL – Both the Bountiful Braves and Viewmont Vikings football teams were coming off wins as they played each other last Friday at Viewmont High School.

Bountiful came out the winner between the in-town rivals as two key turnovers in the fourth quarter helped the Braves win.

Woods Cross started its season 2-0 after taking down defending 3A champion Judge Memorial, 27-14, and Davis went to Hunter High School and evened its overall record by defeating the Wolverines 29-7.

Bountiful beats Viewmont thanks to key turnovers

Two late-game interceptions by Viewmont’s Hunter Anfinson stalled a pair of fourth quarter drives that could have tied the game at 21-all last Friday.

Instead, Anfinson’s second interception went into the hands of Austin Parkinson with less than 30 seconds remaining and the Braves came out the 21-14 winners.

Bountiful rushed for over 100 yards as a team. Kaden Simmonds led all rushers with 66 yards on 21 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Bountiful’s other score was a 59-yard pass from Parkinson to Kaden Larsen.

Anfinson threw for 91 yards and a touchdown, but also had three interceptions. Jared Barnum scored on a punt return. All of Viewmont’s points came in the first quarter.

Woods Cross downs Judge Memorial, 27-14

Trailing 14-0 after the Bulldogs scored their second touchdown of the game in the second quarter, Woods Cross bounced back to score 27 points and claim their second win in a row to start the young season.

Tomasi Giles scored his fourth touchdown of the game, scampering in from nine yards away.

A fumble recovery for a touchdown and two touchdown passes by Tanner Hammond* –one to Jake Hammond* and the other to Cole Cappellucci– gave the Wildcats the cushion they needed to get the win.

Woods Cross’s defense held Judge Memorial scoreless in the second half.

Davis evens record by pummeling Hunter, 29-7

The Darts improved to 1-1 in the football season by using nearly every aspect of the team to score touchdowns.

Against Hunter, a 99-yard kick return and a 68-yard touchdown pass helped the Darts defeat the Wolverines 29-7.

Tyler Hinds got the game started with his kick return for a touchdown and Mason White scampered 68 yards for another touchdown to give Davis a 12-0 lead early on.

Parker Christiansen took care of the rest of the scoring, throwing for a touchdown and rushing for another before the final whistle.

White led the team on the ground with 111 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Christiansen was 10-of-16 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown.
