Wannie was born in Butler, Okla., on Sept. 6, 1924, one of six children born to Joel and Alvaretta Hastings. She spent her youth in Norman, Okla.,and Albuquerque, N.M.
She learned to work hard and make do with what you had, growing up during the depression. Her family loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and singing together.
Wannie moved to Utah to attend BYU and later moved to Salt Lake City where she lived in the Beehive House and worked. She was living in the Beehive House when she met Don Iverson at a dance. Dad called it the “Behave” house because you had to “behave” if you were going to live there.
They were married Sept. 5, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Dad passed away in January 2007.
Wannie is the mother of five children, Alan, Debra (Les) Ashby, Lance, Jeff (Janey) and Vic (Tae). She has 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild due in October.
Mother has always been a hard worker and has taught her children to work hard also. She is a great neighbor. When she could get outside and pull weeds or sweep the driveway and sidewalk, she would look left and right at her neighbor’s yard and was known to go both directions with her broom and help out where she could. Mother is a great example of charity and looking out for one’s neighbor.
Mother will celebrate her 90th birthday with a family barbecue including cake and homemade ice cream.
Thank you Mother for your love and support. You are the best!! We love you.
