BOUNTIFUL – It had been nearly four years since the Davis girls’ soccer team beat Viewmont.
Tuesday at Centerville Junior High School, the Lady Darts ended that streak by beating the Lady Vikings 3-1 behind goals from Ireland Dunn, Mikayla Colohan and Olivia Wade.
“I loved it because I don’t think anyone on this team has beaten Viewmont,” said Darts coach Souli Phongsavath. “So it was a mental thing we had to get over. We started out strong and I’m proud of them because they battled through the whole game.”
Dunn was able to split the defense on a solid pass from teammate Mikayla Colohan for the 1-0 lead. Phongsavath said it was an important goal because it was able to set the tone for the entire game.
“We scored early the last time we were here and (Viewmont) fought back and came back to win,” he said. “It was more important to get that second goal so that we could put the game away mentally for our team.”
Viewmont tied the match just before the end of the first half, but Davis responded in the 59th minute when Colohan gave the Darts the lead at 2-1.
“The first four preseason games we had we started out a little slow,” Phongsavath said. “This game we were able to start out strong at the beginning of both halves, so that’s a good sign for us moving forward.”
Wade kicked in the final goal of the match in the 78th minute to put the game away for good.
Baily World of Viewmont scored the Lady Vikings only goal of the match in the 39th minute.
Davis won its second straight match and four of its first five soccer matches to start the season. Viewmont has lost or tied its last three matches.
The Darts will face Syracuse at home Thursday afternoon. Viewmont will play the Weber Warriors at Weber High School the same day.Kick off for both games is 3:30 p.m.
