St. George, Utah - Yvonne Sandberg, 85, passed away August 10, 2014. Born October 12, 1928 in Logan, Utah, Yvonne was the first of six children of William and Edna Parker. She is now reunited with her husband of 62 years, Arthur L. Sandberg.
Yvonne was a USU educator in every sense of the word. Her home and her classrooms were organized places of love and learning, and students from California to Europe have continued to correspond with her, reliving their memories of a treasured year in her class. These organizational talents transferred to St. George where Art and she retired. They enjoyed golf, activities and new friends at Bloomington Country Club.
No one loved a friend, nor was anyone a better friend than Yvonne. Whatever her passion; raising kids, travel, community activism, knitting, golf or bridge, each venue brought her dear friends.
Her daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters and nieces link her with shopping trips, white gloves, matching sun suits, days at the beach, and Madame Alexander dolls. She put a positive spin on everything she touched, and left so many of us believing we were her absolute best friend…and we were.
Her love story with Art began in middle school and transcended time and their world. Theirs was a marriage of respect, reverence, and pure love. He cherished his bride and she honored her King Arthur. Their marriage was an example to friends and family and truly surpassed what a union was meant to be. Yvonne has brought good to her world and will continue to do the same in eternity.
Yvonne is survived by her sisters: Adeline Parkin and Rosalie Hazeldine; sisters-in-law: Joyce Parker, Jean Melick and Kay Hayes; and her brother-in-law, Dick Sandberg. She is also survived by her daughters: Shauna (Scott) Leggat of North Carolina and Shelle Sandberg of California. Yvonne’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Ian, Emma and Annanell Leggat, Graham, Susana and Curren Leggat, Brianne, Daniel Caroline, James, Henry and Weslin Johnson, Alise, Jason, Olive and Miles Porter, Muihrienne Leggat, and Cameron Leggat.
