BOUNTIFUL — Tom Haraldsen, who has been serving for the past 12 years as assistant managing editor for the Valley Journals newspaper group in Salt Lake City, has been named managing editor of the Davis Clipper. R. Gail Stahle, President and CEO of the Clipper, made the announcement this week.
Haraldsen served as both news editor and sports editor of the Clipper in the 1980s and early 1990s. During his previous service at the Clipper, the newspaper won numerous awards from the Utah Press Association. He was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Utah High School Activities Association for his more than 30 years of prep sports coverage.
“The importance of a hometown community newspaper has never been greater,” he said. “The Davis Clipper has always made that its emphasis, and that tradition of excellence will continue.”
A graduate of Brigham Young University, Haraldsen has won numerous awards from the Utah Press Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press. He has over 35 years of journalism experience. He is the published author of a young adult novel titled “Dreaming of Hope,” and is popular speaker to youth groups.
“We have a number of new, creative ideas that we’ll be introducing to our readers in the coming months,” he said. “I’m excited and honored to be given this opportunity to return to the Clipper.”
A resident of Salt Lake City, Haraldsen and his wife are parents of seven children and have 11 grandchildren. When not sitting at a keyboard, he enjoys golf, tennis, bowling, gardening, and taking yoga and cardio classes with his wife Peri Kinder, also an award-winning writer and columnist.
