SYRACUSE – Antelope Island is allowing spider enthusiasts to come check out the island’s collection of spiders this Saturday, Aug. 9.

The Second Annual Antelope Island Spider Festival will feature lectures from spider experts, a guided spider walk, and more talks about the eight-legged creatures that will include activities for kids.

The entire festival will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and all related activities will be held at the visitor’s center.

The event is free; however, a park entrance fee will apply.

The following Saturday, Aug. 16, there will be two activities at the island: a Junior Ranger Park Program and a Kayak Tour about the Great Salt Lake.

The junior ranger program is designed for kids ages six to 12 and features hands-on learning activities about nature. Those that apply will meet at the visitor’s center at 11 a.m.

The kayak tour will run from 7-9 p.m. and will allow participants to learn about the levels of Lake Bonneville, the Great Salt Lake, and why the lake is salty.

Registration for the kayak tour is required, and kayaks can be rented at Gonzo Boat Rental Tours.

To sign up for the kayak tour visit antelopeisland.utah.gov.

The cost to participate is free, but a park entrance fee is required.
