BOUNTIFUL - It’s the song of freedom.
The Air National Guard Band of the West Coast, a military brass band whose goal is to promote and support the Air Force, is coming to Bountiful June 30 and will perform at 7 p.m. at Bountiful City Park. The band, which has performed overseas in countries across the Middle East, is performing a free concert in Davis County as part of their national tour.
“They called us a year ago and wanted to come play, but then the sequester hit and they had to cancel,” said Richard Watson, director of concerts. “When they called again this year, we said yes. I don’t know why they chose Bountiful, but I’m glad they did.”
The band, which is composed of citizen-airmen, performs patriotic music, contemporary music and Americana songs under the direction of Captain Vu Nguyen. They go on an active-duty tour two weeks every year, with past tours including concerts in places such as New York, British Columbia and the Dominican Republic.
Though the timing was determined by the band’s schedule, Watson pointed out how perfect it was that the concert was scheduled for the day after the open house and air show at Hill Air Force Base.
“We really lucked out,” he said. “If we get the word out, I think the place will be packed.”
Food and monetary donations for the Bountiful Food Pantry will be collected at the event. For more information, contact Watson at 801-540-3146.
