WEST POINT — Students from Syracuse High School learned construction skills as they worked to build a home in West Point that will be sold to a moderate-income household.

In a project sponsored by Utah Housing Corporation and the Davis School District, students provided much of the workforce on the home, and part of the home’s purchase price will have zero interest financing thanks to Utah Housing.

The school receives a builder’s fee for constructing the home, according to a press release.

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to contribute to the community in this way,” said Grant Whitaker, president of Utah Housing Corp., as quoted in the release.

“Young people get a chance to leave their mark on the community and learn a trade while families with modest incomes are able to achieve home ownership,” he said.

The house, which will be offered for sale at a price of $245,000, is located at 3531 W. 1400 North in West Point. To qualify to purchase it, a family of four would need to have a combined income below $57,040 per year.
