BOUNTIFUL — It’s not too early to think about south Davis County’s upcoming Handcart Days Parade and related festivities.

This year, the activities will take place Wednesday, July 23 and Thursday, July 24.

The 1.8 mile long Grand Parade is set for Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. This year it begins from the south, at 1500 South Main, near the roundabout, and heads north on Main to 400 North, then west to 100 West.

As is a long-standing tradition, seats can be saved along the parade route from 7 a.m. the day of the parade. The Police Department emphasizes that no chairs, ropes, blankets or other personal items may be left unattended. Overnight camping along the route is not permitted.

By July 12, you can get a look at who is going to be participating in the parade. That’s when a list of entries will be posted on the website, handcartdays.org/events/parade.

The list will include each entry’s number in the parade and a map showing where to line up on the day of the parade. No materials will be mailed to parade entries unless they have notified the committee by July 10 that mailing is necessary, information from the parade committee said.

All participants are responsible for supplying their own drinking water.

This year’s Handcart Committee chairs are Lowell and Susan Hadley. Lowell may be reached at 801-597-4900 and Susan at 801-680-9607. They may be contacted by email at rlowellhadley@comcast.net.

The parade is traditionally the single-largest event in Bountiful, drawing between 60,000 and 100,000 spectators. There are usually far more than 100 entries, including everything from horse riding groups to floats from various LDS stakes and other groups.

The parade is among the three largest held annually in the state.
