Gerald N Durtschi was born at home on October 31, 1932 to Frederick Alma Durtschi and Vivian Nisonger in Midway, Utah, and passed away Sunday June 8, 2014 in Bountiful.
He attended school in Midway and graduated from Wasatch High School in 1950. He joined the United States Army and served during the Korean conflict from 1952-1954. He attended the University of Utah and graduated from Utah State University in 1960 with a BS Degree in Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics. He married Alta LaRae Meeks August 23, 1957.
He taught science, chemistry and mathematics at South Summit High School. He was awarded outstanding science sponsor all three years he taught. Gerald was employed as a chemist at Hercules, Kaiser Chemical, and Hill Air Force Base. He retired from Defense Contractors Administration as a Chemical and Medical inspector. Gerald enjoyed camping with his family and traveling the world, visiting 63 countries during his lifetime. His favorites were Egypt and Japan. He was also an award-winning photographer.Gerald was descended from Swiss immigrants and was very proud of his Swiss heritage.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Fenton, Grant and Alan. He is survived by his wife, Alta LaRae Meeks, children Linda Frenette (Brian), Bradley Jay (Diane), Alan Lane (Nolana), Anna Rae Triplett (William), Jonathan Blake (Teresa) and Gail Marie Cushing (Kenneth), 21 grandchilden, and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful Tabernacle. A viewing will be held Friday evening, June 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the Tabernacle, Main and Center Street in Bountiful. Interment will be in the Midway Cemetery. Independent Funeral Service.
