BOUNTIFUL — As it is about to enter its 14th year, the Bountiful Farmers Market is getting bigger.

Just as an adolescent, the market is spreading its wings to cover more space for more crafters and food vendors to participate, said Mary Carpenter, market coordinator.

The market will continue using space between the Bountiful Tabernacle on the north and the University of Utah Davis Center.

 “There will be booths on both sides of the street on 100 South, just above Main Street,” Carpenter said. There will not be any booths on the Tabernacle grounds.

The street will be blocked on 100 East down to Landforms Design, 16 E. 100 South. Motorists will need to access the market from 200 South.

The bigger space is at least in part due to the response from a survey asking what brought synergy, life to downtown, and the Farmers Market came out on top, she said. “People said they wanted the market brought closer to Main Street.”

About 50 crafters and about a dozen farmers have signed up so far, but there is time for others to get involved, she said.

Crafters range from wood carvers to various artists, sewing, clothing for all ages, crocheted items, baby things, blankets and quilts, “lots of jewelry, including hand-made jewelry,” Carpenter said.

Farmers include many of the stalwarts, from Bangerter to Day’s and East’s farm.

New restaurants include Bountiful Greek Cafe and Smokin’ Bones Barbecue, with Vito’s returning with a booth. There will be other Mexican, Italian and American eateries and baked goods, roasted corn and more.

The fair starts Thursday, June 19, 3-8 p.m., and will run into October, weather dependent, closing down at dusk.

Entertainment is also being lined up, Carpenter said.

She started the Farmer’s Market virtually single-handedly, and still volunteers her time, now joined with a few others.

Carpenter wanted Bountiful to have the benefit of farmer’s Market so rolled up her sleeves and made it happen. The Downtown Merchants provide funding to support it.

“They’re going to get fresher fruits and vegetables this way,” she said. “It’s supporting local businesses, including local farmers. You’re supporting your friends and neighbors who are crafts people, and who own and operate local restaurants.”

Cost for vendors is $5 for farmers and food vendors a week and $10 a week for crafters. For more information or to sign up for a spot, call Carpenter at 801-721-1642.
