WOODS CROSS – The Spring Sports Academic All-State teams were recently released by the Utah High School Activities Association.

The list includes many Davis County athletes among the encompassing Spring sports, with most of them being honored during state finals events.

In baseball, Andrew Naegle of Bountiful was the only 4A representative from the county, and Layton’s Caleb Harrop received recognition in the 5A ranks.

Boys’ soccer saw Layton’s Thomas Price and Tyler Lanham honored in the 5A class; however, no player from the area was voted from the 4A classification.

Boys’ 5A track and field saw six county athletes make the list. Among them are Layton’s Trenton Behunin, Garrett James and Joseph Gillespie; Syracuse’s Zachary Griffin and Cody Kelley, and Davis’ Scott Johnson.

Bountiful’s Benjamin George, Clayton Jorgensen and Joshua Calder made the 4A list along with Woods Cross’ Hunter Jensen and Sam Cottam.

Girls’ 5A track and field saw Syracuse’s Rebecca Jacobsen and Viewmont’s Sierra Chowen make the list. Bountiful’s Samantha Caruso and Woods Cross’ Anna Peterson, Jacklyn Sullivan and Jennesa Coleman made the 4A list.

Syracuse’s Jackson Craythorne made the team in 5A boys’ tennis. Crayton was joined by Bountiful’s Trevor Lloyd, Clearfield’s Cameron Peterson and Woods Cross’ Jens Nielsen and Josh Stratford, who all made the 4A list.

In girls’ golf, Syracuse’s Emily Frei made the 5A team as the only member from the county. Clearfield’s Danielle Zoglman and Gina Eastes made the 4A team.

Nominations have to be submitted to the Utah High School Activities Association and the winners are voted on by the members of the UHSAA after each season concludes.
