CLEARFIELD — A 27-year-old Clearfield man died of injuries he received after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of 700 South and State Street Tuesday night.

Kelly Allred died at Ogden Regional Medical Center after being transported there.

Police arrested Jose Antonio Cortez Orozco, 37, of North Salt Lake, on charges automobile homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and on a protective order violation.

Police received a call of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle and that the vehicle had left the scene of the accident about 10:21 p.m., according to Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist.

Earlier, police responded to a business in the Freeport Center on a report of a protective order violation. Upon investigation, the officers observed the protective order suspect leaving the scene. Officer’s pursued the vehicle briefly. When the chase was terminated an “attempt to locate” was put out for the alleged suspect in the protective order case, Jose Antonio Cortez Orozco, Stenquist said.

At about 10:47 p.m., Orozco was located in North Salt Lake.

“Officers identified evidence on the vehicle indicating Orozco was likely involved in the auto-pedestrian accident in Clearfield,” Stenquist said.

He was taken back to Clearfield and questioned before being booked.
