WOODS CROSS – Viewmont’s undefeated season came to an end Tuesday afternoon against Riverton in the 5A boys’ soccer semi-finals at Woods Cross High School.

After a scoreless first half, Riverton scored two goals in the second half to give the Silver Wolves the 2-0 win and a berth in Thursday’s finals at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Both Viewmont and Riverton came out firing offensively in the first half. Each team had several opportunities to score the first goal of the match, but stellar goal keeping by Viewmont’s Porter May and Riverton’s Parker Seegmiller kept the game scoreless through the first half.

Riverton; however, was able to find a hole through the Vikings’ defense early in the second half, leading to the first goal in the game.

With only one minute gone in the half, Nick Tanner was able to fire his shot passed the Vikings defense and through the diving arms of May to take the one-goal lead.

Viewmont became more aggressive in an attempt to tie the match, but Richard Anderson scored another goal for the Silver Wolves to take a 2-0 lead.

Seegmiller stayed on his toes at the net and was able to preserve the shutout for the Silver Wolves, who will meet Fremont in Thursday’s 5A final in Sandy.

The Vikings ended their season 17-1-1 overall and was 12-0 in Region 1 play, claiming a region title in their first season back in the region.

Mike Johnson led the team in goals, scoring 16 this season. May finished with 10 shutouts at the net.

The 5A final kicks off at 7 p.m.
