BOUNTIFUL — Letter carriers will be doing extra duty, May 10.
They’ll be picking up food from generous customers as part of the annual National Stamp Out Hunger! food drive.
The drive is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers and in Davis County will support the Bountiful Community Food Pantry and Family Connection Center Food Bank.
Residents can donate by placing one or more bags of non-perishable food by their mailbox for pickup by their carrier that morning, said Lorna Koci. She is executive director of the BCFP.
Financial donations can also be made online to bountifulfoodpantry.org or by check to the Bountiful Community Food Pantry, 480 E. 150 North, Bountiful, UT 84010.
The pantry serves residents Farmington south and the food bank serves those from Kaysville north. To donate to the food bank, call 801-773-0712 or visit utahfcc.org.
Seventeen percent of Utahns are unsure of where their next meal will come from, a recent study by Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network, said.
Most needed non-perishable food items include canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned meat as well as peanut butter and pasta, Koci said.
More than one million pounds of food was collected statewide during last year’s drive.
