WOODS CROSS – Woods Cross was briefly able to wake up its softball bats last week after beating Judge Memorial 25-1, but lost a 13-3 battle with Fremont in non-region play the next day.

In Region 1, Viewmont took a rough 6-3 loss to Layton.

Davis and Bountiful took losses in non-region play, losing to Bear River and Payson, respectively. Bountiful followed the loss by beating Kearns Friday.

Woods Cross beats Judge by 24 runs, lose to Fremont 13-3

The Lady Wildcats scored 25 runs in three innings last Thursday against the Judge Memorial Bulldogs, winning the game 25-1. On Friday they lost to Fremont in non-region play, marking the third time they’ve lost in four games.

Against Fremont, Manni Johnson smacked a home run at the plate for the Wildcats. Woods Cross managed only three hits in the game.

Braves lose to Payson, beat Kearns

Bountiful split its games last Thursday and Friday, losing a non-region game to Payson but beating Kearns in Region 6 play 11-2.

The 6-5 loss to Payson saw the Braves attempt to rally after falling behind 4-0. Bountiful scored a pair in the fifth inning, but allowed two runs in the seventh.

Bountiful fell short of a full comeback after crossing the plate three times in the bottom of the seventh.

Against Kearns, the Braves scored seven runs in the first inning in order to set an early pace in the game. They tacked on three more in the top of the fourth and cruised to a 10-run victory.

Landi Hawker had four hits for the Braves and drove in a pair of runs.

Viewmont drops to Layton in region play

The Viewmont Vikings held a 3-2 lead after three innings before Layton rallied to tie the game, and then take the lead after the fifth inning of last Thursday’s game.

The Lancers scored two more runs in the sixth to hand the Vikings a 6-3 loss.

Eliza Thornley pitched well but took the loss inside the circle, and Amanda Varley hit a home run for the Vikings.

Mikelle Smedley won the game for Layton. McKell Moss and Raeana Gall each hit doubles for the Lancers.

Darts lose to Bear River in non-region action

The Davis Darts scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning against Bear River last Thursday, tying the game at 6-6.

But a single run in the bottom of the inning was all Bear River needed to pick up the win and hold off the Darts rally.

Davis was down 4-0 after one inning and 4-1 after two innings before crossing the plate five times to tie the game. A game-winning bunt by Bear River’s McKayla King proved to be the difference, ending an exciting game.

Breezy Roth hit a double for the Darts. McKenzi Summers hit a three-run home run to pace Bear River’s offense.

Games this week

Woods Cross and Bountiful will square off Thursday afternoon at Mueller Park Junior High School in Bountiful.

In Region 1, Davis will travel to Weber and Viewmont will host Syracuse. All games will start at 3:30 p.m.
