WOODS CROSS - Two sixth graders and an eighth grader were the last ones standing from a field of 66, at the seventh annual county-wide spelling bee held Wednesday, April 2 at Woods Cross High.

AnnaLee Farner, a sixth grader from Clinton Elementary, took first; Camden Beckstrand, a sixth grader from Layton Elementary, finished second; and Laura Landon, an eighth grader from Millcreek Junior High, took third.

The students won scholarships of $3,000, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. Sponsors of the bee included The Davis Clipper, Bountiful Rotary Club, Larry H. Miller Jeep Dodge of Bountiful, SDRC and Get Air Kaysville.

“It would never be possible to do all of this without the dedication of the teachers, school volunteers and parents that all believe in the importance of the art of spelling and increasing the vocabulary of our local students,” said Sydney King, who, with Kristin Kamerath, coordinated the event.
