WOODS CROSS - Union Pacific Railroad and Utah Transit Authority will close 1500 South from 875 West to 950 West  in Woods Cross from Sunday, April 6 through Friday, April 11, to repair the track at 900 West and 1500 South, according to the Woods Cross City website.

Motorists are asked to plan their travel according.

When completed, the project will eliminate the problem that required the trains to blow their horns at the crossing.

Residents living nearby are advised that during the work, they will hear horns blowing due to regulations that they be sounded when work is occurring on the tracks.

The problem started after the Dec. 19, 2013 snowstorm, when city crews salted the crossing. The moisture and salt leaked into the electrical components controlling the crossing arms and they went down and stayed down, Woods Cross City Manager Gary Uresk said in a January interview with the Clipper.

Because the situation wasn’t fully resolved, the railroad had concerns about the reliability of the crossing. Union Pacific’s protocol is to have engineers sound their horns at unreliable crossings.

After the work is completed on April 11, the crossing should once again be silent.
