BOUNTIFUL — This community will host one of the U.S. Air Force Bands, in early June, the only city in Davis County to have that honor.

That’s the feeling of Bountiful Mayor Joe Johnson and Community Service Council co-chairs Beth Holbrook, a city council member, and resident Richard Watson.

As part of a week long exhibition highlighting the Air Force to be staged around Northern Utah, the band will perform June 4 in the early evening, as part of the Community Council’s Friday night Summer Concert series.

They will perform for 90 minutes, divided into two 45 minute segments, at Bountiful Community Park. The local band Maximum Impact will also perform during the program, which will include remarks by Johnson and a performance by the South Davis Metro Fire Agency Color Guard.

An Air Force general, as yet unidentified, will also speak. The event will be held either in front of the bowery or in the parking lot of the South Davis Recreation Center, Watson said.

Food vendors will also be on hand for the event, which is expected to run until about 9 p.m.

“This is the only city in Davis County that is hosting the Air Force Band. The mayor, city council, others of us are really excited,” he said.

More than 30 events are planned from Ogden to Salt Lake City, and on base, during the week.

It kicks off June 1 with an Airman’s Opener at the Salt Lake Bees game, featuring the Air Force Academy Wings of Blue parachute team, while the Air Force Combat Controllers will fastrope from a helicopter with the game ball.

Other events range from a Defenders Showcase at Salt Lake’s Pioneer Park to an art exhibit, Fighter Pilot movie at the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City, Abravanel Hall performance by Tops in Blue, the Air Force’s premier show group, to a Mormon Tabernacle Choir Salute to Air Force Week on Temple Square.

The Thunderbirds and Wings of Blue parachute team will perform June 6 at Hill AFB.

The Concerts in the Park is just one event sponsored by the CSC, Holbrook said. “We’re really trying to increase awareness of the council. By participating in it, that’s a great opportunity to help your community.

“I’m impressed with the willingness of people to give of their time in this completely voluntary endeavor,” she said. “We’ve got some really good people involved.”

The annual Emergency Preparedness Fair set for Aug. 15, is another event sponsored by the CSC. Instead of an admission charge, attendees are asked to bring a donation for the Bountiful Community Food Pantry. It will be held at Bountiful High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wendell Wild, former West Bountiful city administrator and a longtime LDS and United Way leader, is co-chairing the event, with John Hadlow of the Bountiful Police Department and Celest Burningham, an involved community resident.

The CSC meets the second Saturday of each month at Bountiful City Hall, 790 S. Main, at 8 a.m. The public is invited.
