LAYTON - Van Christensen of Layton has announced his candidacy for the Davis County Clerk/Auditor position.
“I will use my experience to build upon what Davis County does well and bring about new levels of efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability to all levels of county government,” Christensen said in a press release.
He is the director of the Local Government Division for the Office of the Utah State Auditor. In that role, he has overseen financial reporting and governance practices of more than 1,000 local governments in the state.
Christensen’s experience evaluating financial reporting and governance practices of all local governments has helped him know what works and what doesn’t, he said.
If elected, Christensen said he would establish “highly effective audit practices that focus on efficiency of county programs as well as prevention of fraud, waste and abuse.”
Christensen said he is committed to the values of faith, family, community service and hard work.
He is a certified public accountant (CPA), a certified fraud examiner (CFE), and a 1996 graduate of Weber State University. He received his bachelors and masters degrees in accounting from the Ogden-based university.
Christensen and his wife, Christine, are lifelong Davis County residents. They are the parents of five children.
He enjoys family vacations and a variety of outdoor activities including mountain biking, camping, fishing and horseback riding.
