Viewmont, Woods Cross part of 4A/5A tournament

WOODS CROSS – The 5A/4A March Warm-up tournament took place in several locations in Utah, part of an opening ceremony to start the softball season for many teams.

Viewmont and Woods Cross both played five games, and each came away with different records.

The Lady Vikings won three out of five games after sweeping Friday’s action, but lost both Saturday games.

Woods Cross won its first two games Friday, but lost the last three games between Friday and Saturday.

Davis played on Wednesday, but lost to Stansbury 8-3 to open its season.

Lady Vikings split six games to open the season

Viewmont played six games in three days last week to kick off its softball season, and finished with a record of 3-3.

The Lady Vikings opened the season with a loss to Copper Hills, 10-4. Viewmont scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning.

In the 5A/4A March Warm up, the Vikings beat Cedar (6-4), Box Elder (6-3) and Springville (10-3) on Friday. They lost to region opponents Fremont (9-8) and Layton (19-9) to close out the tournament.

Riley Tyteca hit two home runs in separate games Friday. Against Layton Saturday, Caitlyn Larsen, Eliza Thornley and Reagan Solomon each hit home runs in the loss.

Lady Wildcats 2-3 after 5A/4A March Warm up tournament

Woods Cross beat Timpview and Timpanogos to open the 5A/4A March Warm up tournament last week, but couldn’t carry its momentum into Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats lost the last game Friday night, then lost to region foes Clearfield and East Saturday to finish 2-3.

Both of Woods Cross’s victories were mercy rule games. Hanalee Robinson pitched a one-hit shutout against Timpview and allowed only a single run on three hits against Timpanogos.

Lady Darts drop season opener to Stansbury

Davis held a 3-0 lead after the first four innings of its opening game of the season last Wednesday.

Stansbury scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and six more in the seventh to down the Darts, 8-3.

Sydney Warren powered the Darts with a home run, and Leilani Moon hit a double for Davis, which scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning.

Makenna O’Brien took the loss inside the circle for Davis.

Games this week

Woods Cross will play its second Region 6 game Thursday against East at East High School.

The Wildcats will go to Layton Friday to face the Lancers.

Viewmont will travel to Brighton High School to face the Bengals Thursday afternoon.

Davis will play Mountain Crest at home Friday, and Bountiful will take part in the Snow Canyon Spring Tournament Friday and Saturday.
