Wildcats baseball 2-0 to start season

WOODS CROSS – The Woods Cross baseball team kicked off its season last week with a pair of wins and outscored their opposition 19-8 in the process.

The Vikings, who also started their season with two games last week, lost both their games to Copper Hills to open the season.

Wildcats 2-0 after beating Stansbury.

The Woods Cross baseball team opened the season 2-0 after taking down Stansbury 8-4 last Wednesday and Skyline 11-4 on Friday.

A 2-1 lead turned into a 5-1 lead after Woods Cross scored three runs in its half of the fifth inning. Stansbury countered with three in the bottom half, but the Wildcats responded with three more in the top of the sixth.

Brandon Wagstaff hit a double for Woods Cross, which had 11 hits in the game. Shaden Fisher picked up the win on the mound.

Against Skyline Friday, the Wildcats broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning by scoring two runs, and then added to their lead by scoring five runs in the seventh inning to seal the victory.

Woods Cross as a team had 11 hits for the second straight game. Alex Johnson hit a double for the Wildcats and Jordan Lewis picked up the win on the mound.

Vikings lose pair to Copper Hills

The Viewmont Vikings baseball team got off to a bad start to open the 2014 season, losing both games of a double-header last Saturday to Copper Hills.

The Vikings were shut out in the first game, 14-0, and lost the second game 11-2.

Tanner Anderson and Josh Mouton each got a win for the Grizzlies on the mound.

Games this week

Viewmont will play its home opener Thursday afternoon against Morgan to continue non-region play.

Bountiful will play its second game of the season Thursday and will travel to Murray before returning home to play Salem Hills on Saturday.

The Darts are scheduled to play a double-header at home Saturday against Grantsville, and will start Region 1 play against Viewmont the following Tuesday.

Woods Cross will travel to Cyprus High School on Saturday to play two games against Granger (scheduled for 12:30 p.m.) and Hunter (scheduled for 3 p.m.).
