KAYSVILLE - Land at the far west end of 200 North may become the site for one of the next elementary schools in Davis School District after discussions this week.

Davis School Board was to consider purchase of 12.9 acres in west Kaysville at a cost of $1,741,500, or $135,000 an acre, at their meeting Tuesday, March 4.

At the same time, Kaysville city leaders were expected to discuss traffic concerns brought up by residents near the proposed school, according to Chase Rogers, director of planning for the school district.

“The citizens have a legitimate concern about traffic patterns,” said Rogers. “The traffic engineer is giving some recommendations on how to adjust the siting of the school to improve traffic flow to decrease the impact on the neighbors.”

Growth in the area has made the new school necessary, said Rogers. Nearby Endeavour Elementary in Kaysville and Heritage Elementary in Layton are going on year-round calendars next fall because of increased enrollment. An additional 500 homes have been approved for construction within Heritage Elementary’s boundaries.

In a perfect world, said Rogers, the Kaysville school and another in west Farmington would be built at the same time.

Funding for three elementary schools was approved in a 2009 bond measure passed by voters. The first school is currently under construction in Woods Cross.

Plans for the sale include a land swap. Henry Walker Homes, owner of the Kaysville land, has committed to purchasing 7.559 acres of land owned by the district near Ellison Park Elementary in Layton for $755,900, or $100,000 an acre.

Both properties have been priced as appraised, said Rogers. The Kaysville land brought a higher price due to market conditions.
