TAYLORSVILLE – The Davis Lady Darts came into Thursday afternoon’s game against Brighton hoping to repeat their performance from Tuesday night’s game.
The Brighton Bengals had different ideas; however, using a smothering defense and solid shooting to discard the Darts from the 5A state tournament in a 61-41 win.
Davis’s offense, which was nearly flawless in the first three quarters against Lone Peak, struggled throughout the game against the Bengals. The Lady Darts were held to eight points in the first quarter and 19 in the first half, a stark contrast to the 42 they scored to open the 5A tournament.
Davis found itself down 31-19 after the first half, and never got closer to the lead for the rest of the game.
Brighton didn’t let up after building on its lead either, increasing its lead from 13 to 16 points heading into the fourth quarter.
Brighton ended the game shooting 51 percent from the floor, and like Davis in Tuesday’s game, had multiple players score in double figures.
The Bengals ended the night with four players over 10 points each, led by Maddie Chin’s 16 points and Dani Barton’s 15 points.
Sara Beecher was the only Lady Dart to score in double figures. She finished with 16 points, two assists and two steals in the loss.
Brighton will face Fremont in the state semi-finals Friday at 4:10 p.m.
