SALT LAKE CITY – The high school hockey season has already crowned one champion this season, and will soon crown another this Friday at the Steiner Arena in Salt Lake City.
Monday night, the Viewmont Vikings had the opportunity to claim the Affiliated high school championship, but fell to Park City 2-1, setting up a winner-take-all game Friday night at 7 p.m.
In the loss, Viewmont’s Danton Hinerman tied the game 1-1 early in the third period, but Park City quickly scored a few minutes later to re-gain the lead.
The Vikings were unbeaten in the playoffs prior to Monday’s game, and would have been the second Davis County team to claim a championship in hockey in a three-day span.
Viewmont finished the regular season without a loss, posting a 9-0-1 record in division play and a 12-1-1 record overall, including the playoffs.
The Steiner Arena is part of the Salt Lake City Sports Complex, located at 645 Guardsman Way in Salt Lake City.
