FARMINGTON - A convicted sex offender is heading for trial August 25-26 in 2nd District Court.

Gary Ellis Hamblin, 48, of Layton, is charged with two counts of rape of a child, three counts of sodomy upon a child, and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Police arrested Hamblin in June 2013 after the mother of a 13-year-old girl reported he had sexually abused her daughter.

Hamblin served time in the Utah State Prison after pleading guilty to one second-degree felony count of attempted aggravated kidnapping and another count of second-degree forcible sexual abuse. He was sentenced to serve 15 years on each count, with the sentences to be served concurrently.

He was released from prison in 2005.

Hamblin remains in the Davis County Jail on the current charges in lieu of $200,000 bail.
