BOUNTIFUL – The Bountiful Braves wrestling team took down Kearns last week, 54-18.
Woods Cross, facing Region 6 power Clearfield, took a tough loss, despite having an early lead against the Falcons.
In a regular season finale at Davis High School, the Viewmont Vikings were able to beat the Darts 38-27 on a final match pin.
Braves down Cougars in season finale, 54-18
The Bountiful Braves started last Thursday’s match against Kearns with a 12 point lead, and only lost three matches against the Kearns Cougars in a 54-18 win.
Hayden Brown of Bountiful was pinned in the 220 pound match, but Lee Freestone pinned Samuel Nathan in the 285 pound match for a 30-6 lead.
After losing the next two matches, Bountiful won the remaining matches either by pin or decision.
Wildcats lose to Clearfield, 51-26
The Woods Cross Wildcats grapplers had a 10 point lead after two matches against the Clearfield Falcons last Thursday.
However, Clearfield won four of the next five matches to take the lead for good, beating the Wildcats 51-26 in the regular season finale.
Vikings down Darts 38-27 on final match pin
The Viewmont Vikings invaded Davis High School in the final region match of the season last Thursday.
Thanks to a final match pin by John Degrey in the 285 pound match, the Vikings were able to defeat the Darts before going to the 5A Duels at Jordan High School.
Davis won the next three matches via decision before Ian Peterson beat Christian Smith with a 3-0 decision.
Davis won the next two matches to a take a slim lead, but a forfeit at 220 pounds gave the Vikings a five point lead heading into the final match.
Degrey ended the match with a pin over Camden Hess of Davis.
Wyatt Koelling and Connor Taylor each got pins in the 182 and 195 pound matches. Kade Evans also got a pin for Davis in the 106-pound match.
Bountiful and Woods Cross will each take part in the Region 6 wrestling tournament at Cyprus High School starting Friday, Jan. 31.
Davis and Viewmont will take part in the Divisional qualifier, taking place at both Jordan and Alta high schools starting Friday, Feb. 5.
