FARMINGTON - Rep. Chris Stewart has announced intentions to seek a second term in the House of Representatives.
The Farmington resident represents the state’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Davis County south of Kaysville.
“I promised I would fight every day to help preserve this great nation for our children and grandchildren,” Stewart said in a press release.
“I believe I have kept that promise,” the Republican said. “But there is still much to do.”
Over his just over one year in office, Stewart said he has traveled more than 8,500 miles around the district, responded to more than 30,000 constituent letters, met with 3,500 constituents, and held 20 town hall events.
“The overwhelming message I have received is that they are concerned about the economy and worried about the rapid growth and expansion of the federal government,” Stewart said.
He said his recent appointment to the House Appropriations Committee puts him in “a unique position to help strengthen the economy and limit wasteful spending in Washington, D.C.”
As a New York Times best-selling author and small businessman Stewart said “I understand the importance of a strong economy. I am committed to stopping the federal government’s out of control spending and ever-increasing debt,” he said.
In addition, his background as an Air Force pilot helps him understand the importance of national security and terrorism, Stewart said.
“But it has also helped me understand how important it is that we safeguard our rights and privacy and provide important oversight to government agencies, such as the NSA, that are improperly encroaching on the privacy rights of our own citizens,” he said.
