SALT LAKE CITY - Utah-s poor air quality is among the top concerns of many in Davis County and in the state.

Clean air advocates from Davis County will join those from throughout the state for the "Clean Air, No Excuses," rally on Saturday, Jan. 25 at noon at the Utah State Capitol.

The rally is being described as likely to be the largest such rally in the state, organizers say.

"It could be the largest "…pollution rally in the country," according to Dr. Brian Moench, president of Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, and may put pressure on the state legislature to act, he said.

Among speakers at the event will be Oncologist Kent Difiori, who will speak on air pollution and cancer; attorney Joro Walker with Western Resource Advocates, who will address legal avenues to improve air quality, along with members of Erin Brockovich's legal team; and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker. Former KSL Anchor Dick Nourse will serve as master of ceremonies.

Music will be provided by such groups as the Saliva Sisters, performing songs with customized air pollution lyrics.

Various groups in Davis County have formed to fight the West Davis Corridor, expansion of oil refineries and the medical waste facility Stericycle.

The public is invited to participate. Those attending are asked to bring signs and clean air masks.
