LAYTON - a 19-year-old man was taken to a local hospital following a house fire on 350 East Morgan Street in Layton Thursday morning.

According to Layton Fire spokesman Doug Bitton, the blaze broke out at around 11:00 a.m. when smoke was seen coming from the house.

Bitton said the resident had soot on his face when firefighters arrived. The man was taken to Davis Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.

Bitton said the fire was contained within a few minutes after crews arrived. Damage was estimated at $20,000.

The fire started in a basement kitchen area near a stove, and did some damage to the walls, according to Bitton.

Three pets were in the home when the fire broke out, but Bitton said two dogs and a cat were recovered and did not appear to be suffering from any injuries related to the fire.

The exact cause of the fire was under investigation.
