SALT LAKE CITY – Brigham Young University’s Winterfest has long been a big draw for audiences from Davis County, but this year, two familiar faces from the well-known singing group Vocal Point may draw even bigger Davis County audiences.

Vocal Point, with members Jon Rose from Kaysville and Landon Peay from Centerville will perform Wednesday, Feb. 12 and Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the LDS Conference Center Theater.

Both singers are communications majors at BYU.

Now in its 10th year at the Conference Center, Winterfest 2014 runs weekends from Feb. 1 through Feb. 21. All performances are in the Conference Center Theater.

Vocal Point, a nine-man a capella group, appeared on “The Sing-Off” television show in late 2011.

The group performs a variety of musical genres including rock, pop, country, jazz, rhythmn and blues, and spiritual.

In a Clipper interview last year, Rose said he enjoyed performing the instrumental portions of an a capella number.

“You’re singing in ways other people wouldn’t think sound good,” he said. “But when you put it together with everyone else, it sounds like there’s an entire band playing.”

He said the band’s members strive to be a good example and send a good message.

Over the course of the four weekends, performing groups as diverse as the International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, the Young Ambassadors and the Contemporary Dance Theater and others will provide a wide range of entertainment  for a variety of musical tastes.

The International Folk Dance Ensemble kicks off Winterfest 2014 on Saturday, Feb. 1, with a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7:30 p.m. evening performance. The group’s extensive repertoire includes dances from North America, western and eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

On Friday,  Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., the award-winning Ballroom Dance Company will perform. The group performs traditional formation dances and standard ballroom steps.

Following Vocal Point’s weekend, the Young Ambassadors will take the stage on Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. The Young Ambassadors is a group of singers, dancers and musicians who have performed in 67 countries with their musical and theater productions.

The Contemporary Dance Theater closes out this year’s Winterfest on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.  The company performs everything from concert contemporary dance to hip-hop.

Tickets are required for these performances with a limit of 10 tickets per order.  They are available over the Internet or by calling 801-570-0080. Cost is $10 per ticket for both evening and matinee performances. There is also a $1.50 convenience fee added to the cost of each ticket purchased over the Internet.
