Police received a call at 1:35 a.m. from a 20-year-old woman who said her mother and father had been arguing, according to Layton Police Lt. Shawn Horton. The woman told police she heard loud bangs and checked on her parents. She found them both with gunshot wounds, Horton said.
They were identified as Bret Pepper, 39, and Jill Pepper, 37.
The daughter who called police was home from college for the holidays. The couple also has two sons, ages 10 and 13 who were at home at the time of the shooting. They were taken out of the home by other family members.
The preliminary investigation indicates Bret Pepper shot Jill Pepper with a handgun then turned the gun on himself, Horton said.
