BOUNTIFUL – The Bountiful Braves boys’ basketball team, ranked third in the state entering last Friday’s game, took apart the second-ranked Cavemen of American Fork thanks to solid defense.
At Woods Cross, the Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season, losing to the Mustangs 63-52.
The Davis Darts picked up their fourth straight victory at Davis High School, beating Bingham 77-56 in front of their home crowd.
Braves take down Cavemen, 56-50
The Bountiful Braves boys’ basketball team took apart the American Fork Cavemen last Friday thanks to stellar defense and solid play from Jeff Pollard, who led the team with 17 points in the game.
Bountiful’s defense held American Fork to seven points in the second quarter and eight in the third, allowing the Braves to extend their lead from one to 12 points.
Bountiful was forced to the free-throw line early in the fourth quarter, but made 8-of-10 attempts in the closing minutes to seal the win.
Sam Merrill and Zac Seljaas each scored 13 points in the win. Jordan Bleak added eight points.
Woods Cross loses first game of the season to Herriman, 63-52
After beating Viewmont 65-57 last Wednesday, the Woods Cross Wildcats attempted to extend its winning streak against the Herriman Mustangs at home last Friday.
The Wildcats fell behind early, however, and were never able to catch up the big lead, losing 63-52.
The Wildcats fell behind by eight points in the first quarter, and managed to score only six points in the second to fall behind by 18 points after the first half.
They outscored the Mustangs in the second half, but it still wasn’t enough to take the lead.
Garrett Grant scored 21 points and had three assists in the loss, and Jackson Pohlman added 12 points in the loss.
Darts win fourth straight, down Miners 77-56
The Davis Darts offense was on a tear Friday night when they took on the Bingham at home.
Scoring at least 21 points in the first three quarters, the Darts rode an insurmountable lead into the fourth quarter and never looked back as they beat the Miners 77-56.
Leading the way for Davis was Jesse Wade, who scored a game-high 19 points with three rebounds and four assists. Abel Porter scored 16 points with eight rebounds, and Matt Morrell added 13 points with four rebounds in the win.
Davis has won its last three games by 46, 15, and 21 points, respectively.
Games this week
Bountiful and Viewmont will both head to separate tournaments over the weekend.
The Braves will play in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., starting Thursday night. Viewmont will play in the Red Rocks Rumble, being played at Dixie State College in Orem, starting Thursday.
Woods Cross will travel to Fremont High School Friday night to face the Silver Wolves, and Davis will be at home to face Cottonwood the same night.
