Braves pull away from Vikings; Wildcats win Top of Utah Challenge

BOUNTIFUL – The Bountiful Braves and the Viewmont Vikings fought for inner-city bragging rights last Friday night at Viewmont High School, and the Braves came out winners in a 66-40 thrashing.

At Northridge High School, the Woods Cross Wildcats won the Top of Utah Challenge tournament, going undefeated in its three games.

At Davis High School, the Darts won the second of their first three games to start the season after beating the Sky Hawks 76-30.

Braves beat Vikings behind trio of double-digit scorers

Bountiful’s Sam Merrill scored 16 points with seven rebounds and six assists, and Zac Seljaas scored 14 points with six rebounds and five assists Friday night as the Braves beat the Viewmont Vikings 66-40.

Viewmont was held to five points in the second quarter, and was outscored 37-28 in the second half leading to the Vikings suffering their first loss of the season.

McKay Johnson led the Vikings with 14 points and seven rebounds, and McKay Butler scored 11 points with six rebounds in the loss.

 

Wildcats go 3-0 at Top of Utah Challenge

The Woods Cross Wildcats boys’ basketball team went undefeated at the Top of Utah Challenge tournament last week, beating Box Elder (73-67), Northridge (74-51), and Wasatch (81-60).

The tournament saw the Wildcats score at least 73 points in each game, and as a whole, the Wildcats averaged 76 points per game.

Garrett Grant averaged 20 points per game, and scored a season-high 26 points against Box Elder to open the tournament.

Luke Jowers saved his best performance for last, knocking down four 3-pointers in a 30-point scoring effort against Wasatch Friday.

 

Darts double up Salem Hills for second win

The Davis Darts boys’ basketball team held Salem Hills to 14 second half points Friday night at Davis High School.

In that same span, Davis scored 37 points in a 76-30 thumping over the Sky Hawks, and picked up its second win of the season.

Abel Porter and Elijah Kletzli each scored 19 points in the win, and Jesse Wade scored 17 points with seven rebounds and seven assists.

 

Upcoming games

Bountiful, Davis and Woods Cross will all be at home Friday night. The Braves will host American Fork, the Darts will face Bingham, and the Wildcats will face Herriman.
